How to Calculate Net Carbs

Net carbs is a term that all nutritionists can agree on. The net carbs noted on the package may not always be the number of calories that your body absorbs. Net carbs are defined as digestible carbs. These can include both simple and complex carbs. When you ingest carbs, your body has to break them down into sugars to be able to absorb them. Some carbs can be broken down into individual sugar units, while others cannot. Fiber, unlike sugar, is not absorbed in the small intestine. Fiber passes directly to the colon. Where it goes after that depends on if it it soluble or insoluble. Counting net carbs is helpful to some people, while some prefer to count total carbs.
