Ketogenic Diet & Cancer: Interpreting the Research

man and girl stretching

There is much research done about the ketogenic diet being helpful to cancer patients. It cautions that any change to diet must be discussed with a patient’s treating physician. The author writes about the fact that cancer cells like carbs. This is called the Warburg affect. The ketogenic diet is low in carbs. The article then goes on to discuss a few studies in which it seems that low carb diets do indeed have a positive impact on cancer patients and a negative impact on the cancer itself. There have been no formal studies that the author know of that specifically look at how a ketogenic diet itself impacts cancer. The impact is not same for everyone, however. Hopefully, there will be some full blown trials done to learn more.

Key Takeaways:

  • Diet and cancer seem to be linked according to a few studies. Be careful about what foods are eaten on any given day for people.
  • New diet approaches are sure to appeal to a select few people. Look to the research to provide important answers people need to know.
  • Cancer is always a threat for people of any ages or backgrounds. Find a new diet that can thwart cancer when it affects them completely.

“Epidemiological studies show that high blood glucose, known as hyperglycemia, is strongly associated with increased risk of cancer.”
